BLOODBATH IN MANHATTAN

Clairmont Mansion Attack Leaves Dozens Dead, Owners Found Slain

New York City — The city reels today after a shocking massacre at the palatial Clairmont Mansion. Police answering a disturbance call yesterday discovered the household staff handcuffed in the dining room; after being released, the staff were transported to a local hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Clairmont, prominent New York socialites, were later found dead in a panel van abandoned in a downtown alley. Both had been shot execution-style.

In a grisly twist, the house staff survivors were placed aboard a bus bound for hospital care, only to be ambushed en route. The attackers sprayed the vehicle with machine-gun fire, killing every passenger.

Inspector Cramer of Homicide West stonewalled reporters, refusing comment. City officials fear the brazen killings mark an escalation in gangland warfare.

MOB TIES SUSPECTED

A confidential source at the 28th Precinct whispered that police uncovered five kilos of cocaine and mob-connected ledgers in the Clairmont basement.

The evidence points to the Clairmonts’ involvement in Manhattan’s narcotics racket. Detectives now believe the bloodbath was payback by a rival mob syndicate muscling in on their territory.

Commissioner Valentine vowed swift justice, warning gangsters that “the law will put the pinch on every last hood running dope in this town.”
